  1. FreeHand 5.0 Demo ReadMe

  3. As you begin to use the FreeHand 5.0 Demo you will notice many excellent additions that put the fun back into illustration. This demo version allows you to explore most of the functionality in FreeHand 5.0 with the following exceptions: 
  4. -- Save, Save As, Export and Publish are disabled.
  5. -- Color library support, Spelling and Hyphenation are disabled.
  6. -- You can copy and paste within FreeHand, but you can't copy out to the Finder.
  7. -- When you print, a small banner will stretch across the top and bottom of your page.

  9. When you purchase FreeHand 5.0 you will get many additional items that couldn't be included in the demo version:

  12. Including Crayon, DIC, Focoltone, Grays, Munsell, TOYO, TruMatch and Pantone.

  38. INSTALLING THE FREEHAND 5.0 DEMO VERSION
  39. FreeHand 5.0 Demo can be installed directly from the Macromedia Showcase CD. Double-click the Installer and choose a destination on your hard disk.

  42. PREFERENCES
  43. The FreeHand Preferences file is located in the Preferences folder in your System folder (System 7), or in the root directory of the System folder (System 6). To use the default preferences, simply delete the preferences file and launch FreeHand.

  46. XTRAS
  47. The Xtras folder holds all the Xtra features shipped with FreeHand 5.0. If you plan to make use of Illustrator Plug-Ins¬ you can place them directly in the Xtras folder, or simply make an alias of the Illustrator Plug-Ins¬ folder and place it in the Xtras folder. FreeHand will ╥look inside╙ folders that are within the Xtras folder.

  51. If you are using ATM 3.0 or earlier, you may get incorrect ╥error╙ messages when converting text to paths. Upgrading to ATM 3.5 or later will correct this problem.

  54. HP DESKWRITERS
  55. Color text printed from FreeHand to an HP DeskWriter color-capable printer may print as black. The problem occurs with the DW Series 6.0 driver and earlier versions. Colored text using a PostScript font suffers from this problem. To correct this, you may use a TrueType font or convert the colored text to paths.

  58. LINOTRONIC IMAGESETTERS
  59. FreeHand 5.0 may show the following PostScript error when used with a Linotronic Imagesetter.

  61. %%invalid access [offending command: put] for postscript level 1 Rips
  62. %%invalid access [offending command: findfont] for postscript level 2 Rips
  63.  
  64. To fix this, re-download all the fonts to the RIPs hard drive using Linotronic Font Downloader 2.5.4 (or the most recent version). Be sure to use the TIME button instead of SPACE.
